Don't Be Fooled!
Image
Did you know that when you’re searching for your next OAK departure on certain online travel agencies (OTA’s) you might get a display saying “There are no nonstop flights in this market.”  In many cases, that response is simply not true.  The truth is there could be a dozen flights per day!  Why does it happen?  Because several OAK carriers skip the “middle man” and only sell directly to you.  This helps to keep airfares lower and allows you to avoid sneaky booking charges you’ll often find tacked on as you complete your purchase.  OAK carriers Allegiant Air, ArkeFly, SATA, Southwest Airlines, and Volaris Airlines do not pay to be listed on online travel agencies like Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz - to name just a few.
Savvy OAK travelers know the best way to get the truth and the lowest fare is to shop direct at the airline's website.  At OAK those websites are:
Alaskaair.com       Allegiant.com
Arkefly.com       Delta.com
Hawaiianair.com       JetBlue.com
Sata.com       Southwest.com
Spirit.com       Usairways.com
Volaris.mx

Help OAK soar!  Spread the word, tell your friends and family that when they are shopping for flights in and out of OAK, the place you can get a true answer and a low fare is directly at the airline’s website.  OAK, the best way to San Francisco Bay!

OAK is Bear Territory!
Image
OAK and the University of California Berkeley (Cal) have teamed up for an exclusive partnership designating OAK as the “Official Airport of the Cal Athletics.”  This is a golden opportunity for OAK as Cal is the largest employer in the East Bay and more than 458,000 alumni live world-wide with nearly 1 million alumni residing in the Bay Area.
The sponsorship provides OAK with branding in Memorial Stadium (football), Haas Pavilion (basketball), and Evans Diamond (baseball).  As a passion point of the East Bay as well as alumni and fans across the nation, Cal provides a unique opportunity for OAK to reach out to potential and existing passengers.
Did you know if Cal were a country, it would have tied with Germany and France in gold medal count at the 2012 Summer Olympic games with 11 gold medals?

FedEx Commits to OAK and to the Environment
Image
FedEx has committed to OAK through 2036 and will invest more than $30M into upgrades at its sorting facility at OAK.  Upgrades will allow the facility to increase the number of international and domestic packages that FedEx is able to sort.  The upgrades will also provide an extra gate for a new Boeing 777F, an aircraft with lower emissions, better fuel efficiency, and a quieter noise profile than the three engine aircraft it replaces.  The benefits of the 777F will ultimately allow FedEx to replace MD-11 aircraft on its OAK to Asia service.  FedEx will also receive tow tractors retrofitted with hydrogen fuel cells as part of a grant from the Department of Energy.  These retrofitted tractors will reduce emissions and the dependence on fossil fuels.

OAK Passengers Given Early Holiday Treat of FREE Parking!
Image
The successful Park Free promotion, run between Thanksgiving Day, November 22 and December 20, helped boost passenger traffic during the traditionally slow travel time between holidays.  “Having been one of the very first airline partners at OAK to participate in the parking promotion, we’re a strong believer in this mutually-beneficial relationship, and are thrilled to see it continue,” said Jace Hieda, Marketing Manager for JetBlue.  “With our nonstop service to the East Coast, as well as our convenient service to Long Beach – the gateway to Southern California – the parking promotion absolutely gives yet another great reason for Bay Area customers to choose Oakland International Airport, and to support JetBlue’s OAK service.”

Travelers that departed on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday received up to 3 days of FREE parking, a $66 value!  This is the third time that OAK launched the Park Free promotion and allowed passengers flying all airlines to experience the convenience of the only true on-airport parking lot.  If you missed out, the savings continue all year.  Visit http://oaklandairport.com/parkingoffers for additional coupons!  Park OAK and Fly on Time!

OAK is the CLEAR Choice
Image
One local airport suffers from frequent fog delays causing inconvenience to airlines and travelers alike.  But it is not our problem!  According to September 2012 data, 90% of OAK’s flights were on-time compared to 67% across the bay at SFO.  Don’t get fogged in!  Or, fogged out, for that matter.  The choice is clear for on-time departures.  OAK - Park Close, Fly On-Time.

BART's Airport Connector Well Underway - Planned Opening Spring 2014
Image
Project on schedule. Construction of the Oakland Airport Connector along airport area roadways.

The Oakland Airport Connector (OAC) is a 3.2-mile extension of BART from the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART Station to Oakland International Airport (OAK).  BART takes passengers from OAK directly to the central business and tourism districts throughout the Bay Area.
The new vehicles will depart each terminus every 5 minutes and will travel between BART and the airport in about eight minutes, primarily on an elevated guideway structure along the median of the Hegenberger Road business corridor.
The project is approximately 65% complete—construction is scheduled to be fully complete in late 2013, and, after several months of systems testing, OAC will open to customers in 2014.  More than 800 construction workers have been employed and more than 500 are from the Bay Area.  The OAC project has also provided more than $25 million in subcontracting opportunities to 25 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs).
OAK offers direct, convenient connections to more BART lines than any other Bay Area Airport, and the current BART service from OAK to downtown San Francisco takes just 30-40 minutes. Did you know that roughly 16% of OAK's passengers use the current AirBART shuttle, making it one of the nation's most popular airport-to-rail connections?
Little to no disruption is anticipated to current airport or roadway operations during construction.  Learn more at bart.gov/oac.
